這是有史以來最押韻的標題吧!

不知道有多少人訂閱我們中華民國總統蔡英文的推特呢? (Twitter) 談政治太敏感，大家也不用針對她在推特的發言，我只想取其優，請大家看看簡短貼文上她得用字和搭配詞 (collocation)。

這幾天奧運新聞沸沸揚揚。最可喜可賀的是我們的第一面銀牌由楊勇緯奪下。從Twitter 看東京奧運消息也很有趣，順便也來學學奧運英文吧!!

恭喜楊勇緯在柔道贏得銀牌。你讓台灣國人驕傲，並在東京奧運為台灣隊贏的第一面獎牌。

•Congratulations to someone on something ( 恭喜某人因為某事……)

恭喜這個字記得一定要加S，在英文裡有些抽象名詞會加S變成複數來強調，比如 Best wishes, 用在寫信的結尾。

後面的兩個介係詞 to  on 不要搞混了喔。如果直接想恭喜某件事就可以直接用 on:   Congratulations on your new promotion. ( 恭喜你升官了!)\

•make someone proud (讓某人感到驕傲)

•win the first medal (贏的第一面獎牌) 

♦金牌 gold medal ◊ 銀牌 silver medal  ◊銅牌 bronze medal

♦柔道(judo) 跆拳道(taekwondo) 這些在英文裡統稱 martial arts

Our nationwide COVID-19 Alert will be lowered to Level 2 from this coming Tuesday, thanks to the hard work & sacrifices of everyone in #Taiwan. I want to make clear that though we are relaxing restrictions, we must not let down our guard.
我們的全國新冠肺炎警界將在下周二降級為二級，因為在台灣大家的努力和犧牲。我想闡明即使我們放寬限制，但勿掉以輕心。

•be lowered to Level 2     降級為二級

被動式用法，所以提高為三級就是 be raised to Level 3

•make clear that  闡明…..

make clear that 或是make it clear that 兩種都有人用，但make it clear that 比較常用。這個it 代名詞所指的就是主詞想說清楚的事情。

如果依照這裡的說法，小英總統這句話要加it 會比較好。有興趣的人可以研究一下。

•relax restrictions 鬆綁 (放鬆限制)

•Thanks to 幸虧；由於，因為

這裡不能翻成謝謝你們的努力和犧牲…..因為thank 如果當謝謝的話後面是不用加to 。thank to 就是一個片語

如果總統的意思是謝謝你們的努力和犧牲，那應該要說 Thanks for the hard work and sacrifices

•let down the guard 卸下防禦

guard (n.)防衛防禦 也可以當動詞用 Guard your heart. (保守你的心)

not let down the guard 勿掉以輕心

大家也注意一下英文宣傳單上的文宣

♦stay vigilant and follow government guidelines 保持警戒並遵守政府指導方針

vigilant 的同意字 alert attentive observant 警覺的；警戒的；警惕的

♦continue masks wearing social distancing and contact tracing 繼續戴口罩 社交距離 和接觸追蹤

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the flooding in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg & the Netherlands. On behalf of Taiwan, I want to convey my condolences & offer to provide help to those in need.

我對於在德國、比利時、盧森堡和荷蘭因水患而受災的人民深表同情。謹代表台灣，表達我的慰問並提供那些需要的人幫助。

Our hearts go out to the victims of the catastrophe. (我們對災難的受害者深表同情)

•On behalf of sb 代表……..

♦商用英文書信常用到這樣的開場白

On behalf of + Noun（機關名稱）, S+ V 「謹代表OOO（公司或機關）

•Convey one’s condolences  對….獻上哀悼或表達慰問。

♦ condolences 弔唁（詞）；哀悼（詞） 可數名詞，用複數表強調。
